We have had several snow days this winter. The first few were pretty tame, just a couple inches each time. But at the end of February, we got hit hard with a couple big storms. The first was the largest, dumping us with over a foot. The second, just a few days later, left us with several more inches, though it was a wetter snow and some of it melted rather than accumulating, so it was harder to tell how much we got.
The day of the first snow, Mike and his crew at City Hall, were some of the few to brave the storm. It snowed all day, so the plows didn't do much that day, as they were waiting until it stopped to make their pass. So on the way home, he got stuck at the corner near our house. We had a mini-adventure getting it home. Mike pushed while I steered. We couldn't get it unstuck right away, so we took Emily out of the care of her slightly older siblings and put her in the car with me while we worked. Finally, we had enlist the help of our neighbor, also named Mike, to help us out. Even together, the Mikes couldn't push it out, so Mike--our neighbor--hooked our car up to his truck, using our neighbor Jerry's chain. Thank goodness for good neighbors. We repaid both with homemade chocolate chip cookies. And then enjoyed the soup that had been simmering for a good forty minutes.
By next day, those roads couldn't have been better, so we didn't need to repeat that excitement.
The girls loved having some snow to play in and went out several times to enjoy it. They sledded in garbage can lids and threw a few snowballs. Maggie helped me shovel the driveway with a tiny garden shovel. And Kate in her Hello Kitty boots stomped around in every snow patch she could, all the way until this past Friday. And little Emily would not be left out of the fun. She insisted on being included in every winter romp she could.
